Pandora

My husband recommended this website (www.pandora.com) to me after it was recommended to him by a colleague. It is great. You just type in which artists you like, and they create play lists for you. It is based on The Music Genome Project, which analyzes a tune and assigns a "gene" to each attribute of the tune, then finds other tunes with similar genes in order to create a music list. It is pretty "right on" with their choices of tunes for me. You can give them feedback, like, "Don't play that song again," or "I like this song. Play it a lot." It's pretty cool. And if you are like me, and have a wide range of music tastes, you can set up different "stations," based on a particular artist's style. For example, here are my current stations: The Police, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Janet Jackson, Carol Sloane, Original Broadway Cast, and Boyz II Men. The Police station (haha, get it? police station! ha) will play music by The Police, Sting, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Outfield, and other artists with similar styles. The Bon Jovi station plays Journey, Aerosmith, Van Halen, and other assorted hairbands. The Original Broadway Cast plays a wide variety of Broadway songs, both past and present. It's fun. It sure beats picking my own tunes (who has time to do that anyway?). Also, it introduces you to new and/or obscure artists that you may not otherwise listen to. But if you do want specific tunes, you can search for them and bookmark them. Check it out, and let me know what you think. And to the music snobs out there, thanks for not laughing at my taste in music. Bon Jovi -woohoo!
