Why Didn't I Think of That?

We have gone to a Kindergarten birthday party every weekend since school started. We figure there are only 25 kids left in the whole grade for the remainder of the year; we should get a reprieve sometime, right? Anyhow, yesterday was no exception, but this one was a little more interesting. The party was at a church hall, and the hosts hired a company to come in to entertain the children. At first, it was pretty typical -loud music, parachute games, balloon toss. Then, the head entertainer stood up on a chair with a device in his hand: a leaf blower with a paint roller duct-taped to the end. On the paint roller was a roll of toilet paper. He aimed it out into the group of kids and turned it on. The kids went wild chasing the streaming TP. I turned to the other mothers next to me:

Me: It's like a fraternity party.

Other mother #1 (chuckling): Yeah. I wish I had thought of it.

Other mother #2: Is that how kids TP the neighborhood now? When we were kids, we just threw the rolls over the trees.

Once all the rolls of toilet paper were unrolled, the Entertainer announced through his bullhorn, "Now we're going to see who can collect the most paper," as his assistant handed out trash bags.

Other mother #1: Now that's efficient.

Other mother #2: Making a mess and cleaning up all for the sake of entertainment.

Me: If the leaf blower becomes a leaf vacuum, too, then I'll be really impressed.

Other mother #1: How much do you think he's getting paid for this?

So the kids ran around excitedly and hurriedly picking up toilet paper and placing it into garbage bags. And what fun they were having! For the next activity, the Entertainer and his Assistant laid out sheets of new bubble wrap onto the floor and told the children to jump. So much fun! And so simple. Now I know what to do the next rainy day.
