Well, today we had Internet, phone, and cable installed, therefore the new blog entry. My entry from yesterday was typed into Word, then cut and paste onto my site today.
It had been quite peaceful without the interference of technology (no TV or Internet, but we did have our mobile phones). During our first few days of residence in our new town, we drove around town, got lost, and found our way back home. We continued to unpack; all the moving boxes are open, but a few remain containing stuff that never should have come with us, while some of the contents are just waiting for new places to be stored. Today, the children and I went to the local library and signed up for our cards, took out some books, and signed them up for some activities (free, too!). They were even filming a few scenes for a soap opera outside the library while we were there. We actually made small talk with one of the Emmy winning actresses from the show (I had forgotten how common it was to run into celebrities back here). No, it wasn't one of the soaps I watch. Oh well.
We are loving our new town. It is quiet, peaceful, and yet an easy commute to a big city. The views around town are beautiful with some farms and lots preserves. Very much of a small town. There is a town green with a pond, a small post office with three postal workers, a tiny library with three librarians, and of course, a town tavern (we will report on this after we research it!). Everyone seems to know everyone else, and those that we have met have been so friendly. Although we miss Kansas City, our new town has made the transition well worth it. I think we are going to like it here.
