You Raise Me Up

I passed my Board certification exam. Thank you all for your continued encouragement. I am truly blessed to have such wonderful family and friends.

I attended the Kindergartners Mother's Day Tea today. We were served tea (really) and various treats prepared by the youngsters. We ordered off the menu, which consisted of chocolate covered strawberries, peppermint balls, cookie dough truffles, chocolate-covered Oreos, and butter brickle (my blood sugar is sky high). Then, we were served at our tables by our children. Once we finished our sweets, we were further treated to a concert. As I reported in my last post, the tears, once again, flowed, as we heard our little ones serenade us.

This, of course is Josh Groban, performing with the African Children's Choir (not my daughter's class :) in 2007 on the Ellen DeGeneres show. Today's show was much more tear jerking for me. Please accept, this wonderful rendition in lieu of my daughter's performance.

I have listened to these lyrics before, but today, they took on different meanings. Hearing children sing it to us, hearing my daughter sing it to me, was truly inspiring. I am reminded of what a blessing it is to have children, of what a responsibility it is, and of how much they rely on us, their parents. And for the first time, I realized that my children actually appreciate me, and they know how to express it (when prompted by their teachers, of course, but hey, they still feel it, right?). And they are not yet inhibited enough to let me know. My kids are at such a wonderful age: they are growing more and more independent (no more diapers or feedings or tantrums), we can reason with them, they still enjoy spending time with us, and they still look up to me and my husband. I realize that pretty soon, things may change. And I remind myself everyday to cherish these moments when they can still cuddle me and tell me, "I am strong, when I am on your shoulders; You raise me up: To more than I can be."

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mothers out there. May you cherish your little ones, and they, you.
